A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
The West Texas BBQ Bash is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in July 2020 in response to a desire to feed the hungry citizens of Ward County, Texas, and provide human interaction during the Covid shutdown. It was learned by the five founding members that many people in the area were hungry and had no means to purchase food or even get to a store during the shutdown. While having a friendly cooking competition at the man camp the team came up with an idea how to feed the entire community at least one meal a year while contributing to the community in a meaningful way. Because of the strict Covid shutdown requirements at the time, it was a challenge to develop a plan to bring people together to feel the emotion that only in-person human interaction can create. The team worked with local, county, and state officials to come up with a safe way to bring the community together, and the rest is history… competitive pitmasters from over a dozen different states answered the call to compete and feed over 5000 people at the first event, free of charge. The 2020 West Texas BBQ Bash generated $10,000.00 in charitable donations, fed 5200 people, and not a single case of Covid was registered. In 2021 the South Texas BBQ Bash was formed and the first event fed over 5800 people and generated $30k in cash donations to local organizations. This experience of building a network to contribute to the local communities and feed individuals in need has been the inspiration for the team. 100% of all proceeds go to local charities and because the event, food, and entertainment are provided to the public for free, we depend on our well-to-do community members and the corporate community to donate whatever they can to help bring these events to reality.
